The Design of the Estate

The plans and picture below show how the Estate was designed to have narrower roads but more extensive front gardens and verges. This was contrary to the wide bye-law roads of the time and now gives the Estate its special qualities.

The Kitchen

The picture of the sink and drainer below is taken at the Black Country Museum. The same Belfast sink and wooden drainer were installed in the Estate houses. We had one when we moved into our house in Margaret Grove.
Also used was a shallower, wider version with fluted sides. Were these used for washing clothes?
Below are some original drawings for the drainage system around the Estate.
