May Day Dances at the Bowling Green 14th May 1910
The pictures are of the Maypole dancing which took place on the original bowling green at the bottom of Margaret Grove. The preparations for the event were extensive as can be seen by the detailed costomes.
The houses are all still there of course. In one picture you can see the house which is on the corner of Pereira Road.
The pictures speak of Harborne Tenants May Day Festivities so it is probable that in the early days of the Estate the company took a more active role in promoting or supporting events.
The importance of sport is demonstrated by the fact that within 3 years of the Estate being started a bowling green had been established.
Do you know of any of the people who were there?
