Moor Pool Bowls Club

The bowling green was originally located at the bottom of Margaret Grove but at some point moved to its current location. There is a story the current clubhouse was carried up from the Margaret Grove, Moor Pool Avenue location to its current position by members.

The Club celebrated its Centenary in 2009.

Do you know of any of the people who were there?

In the picture below, behind the tennis courts can be seen the original bowling green. The edges are steeply banked alongside Margaret Grove and the pathway between Margaret Grove and Moor Pool Avenue. Benches alongside the green are spaced out. This area  became allotments shown in the next picture. The picture is taken from Margaret Grove looking over towards Moor Pool Avenue. These allotments were allowed to fall into disuse as an attempt was made to develop them for housing. When Grainger plc later attempted to reintroduce housing development on the land a vociferous campaign ensued to protect it and either retain it as allotments or a pocket park. This was accepted as part of the conditions for the development on the Valley and part of the land is now being converted to a community garden. The bowling green moved many years ago to alongside the Moor Pool near Ravenhurst Road.
